Across the alley from our gates. There was another one fruiting earlier this year and I saw people with fruit pickers "steeling" it. It looks like an orchard . I do not think there is a house on that property.

I've heard that they are short lived trees because they producing year round. Is it true?

Papaya is not a tree. It's an herb. It actually has no real wood...and yes it's a short-lived plant. Papayas are typically replaced every 3 to 5 years. I've had one that lived almost 10 years and produced really well. I came home from work one day and it collapsed on the ground full of papayas.
The hallow "trunks" rot, or bugs eat them. Here the sow bugs love to eat my papaya trunks.
Papayas can have fruit at different stages throughout the year. This depends on the variety and climate. In the true hot, humid tropics they can ripen all year long.

Those are going to be very yummy when they ripen. I love home-grown papayas!
It looks like my old Papaya 'Thai Dwarf' variety. My newer 'Thai Dwarf' had huge papayas. It's amazing how variable varieties can be. I just cut down my 20' Thai Dwarf papaya plant today...it was old.
