First time flowering in my winter pot garden. This has been growing since the fall and is taking advantage of the sun today by opening. One of the short ones. You can see under one of the petals a dark purple blob which is the stigma. It is 1¾" wide.

To me, this is very beautiful! Thank goodness we dont all love the same plants all the time! I love the subtle almost Apricot shades with the blue contrasts. :)

Thanks! This is part of my South African winter growing collection that I am building up. There are some more that have put up stalks, so it's a nice way to ease through the winter months.

Is there a botanical garden in the Azores? I would think it would be heavy on the S.A. flora...not too mention the Canary Islands.

There is one in downtown Angra do Heroismo (Google: Jardim de Angra do Heroismo and click on Images), but there isn't the big formal displays like there are in Golden Gate Park or Balboa Park. When the colonies in Angola and Mozambique became liberated, the Portuguese brought a lot of the flora back with them. My seeds and bulbs have been bought from companies in Germany and Greece.

Thanks Wylie,I like the vid of the Jardin so much I linked it on a couple of boards.
The Azores have a Santa Barbara vibe going. Not hot or cold and almost anything will grow there.
When I saw the big Plumeria? I knew you are notches milder then the bay area.

It is a little warmer here (I grew up in Albany). But it has the California feel - green winters, brown summers (but without the fire hazard).

Mmm, interesting rather than pretty.
