Ornamental flowering plum

Welcomed us on our arrival from Mexico. On the first spring day 2016. Last year it has finished blooming when we arrived.

Like Einstein with purple wild hair. Nice lining it up.

You've got such a unique imagination, Stan510!

What a lovely colour! It lights up the whole space around it. How wonderful to be welcomed by the beautiful sight like this. You must be very pleased to see it blossoming this year, Klahanie :-)

Thank you all for liking. It was one of the reason why we came home sooner than in previous year Tommymoo. I missed lots of beautiful blooms in early spring.

I agree with Tommymoo Stan510, you have a vivid imagination. :-)

This tree was here when we moved in about 12 years ago Amy and it was already large then. I love it because it heralds the spring and it is very visible. Looks nice rest of the year as well with its red leaves.

Well,Its my inner artistic side. I see things on more then just the surface. Art in nature.
I couldn't change if I tried-lol. Just indulge me.

It's a really fab colour, a beautiful little tree.

Thank you Feverfew. How is your garden doing? If I remember correctly you had some nice primulas . And a beautiful red tree peony...is it in bud?

This is a very large tree. The picture is taken from downhill so it looks more like a shrub. I will post another pic to show its size better.

Wow

I don't think I have seen a plum flower in that color. Right now all the stone fruits are in flower or peaked...but I haven't seen anything but pinks, whites.
Does it have no fruit? or fruits for birds?

Stan, this is an ornamental flowering plum . It has single pink flowers, has dark red foliage in summer and produces small fruits but only sporadically. For birds. Garden centres have also a double flowering ornamental plum trees. Sort of like ornamental cherry trees.
Our edible plums are starting to bloom now

Well designed by the garden architect, if it is sight from the entrance. I think according to your description, that you have Prunus cerrulata, or Japanese cherry. I have Prunus cerrulata Kwanzan, but it is just in buds, not blooming yet.

Katarina, this is flowering plum not cherry (in the picture). I do have a weeping flowering cherry ...also still in bud.
