Apparently the larva live underneath the soil for at least three years then emerge as beetles and fly around for several weeks. This one was upside down and soaked. It must have got caught in all the heavy downpours we had. I've never minded handling anything creepy crawley, I was like it as a child and took every bug I could find into my bedroom and my mother hated it.

PP and Thrupennybit, It was striped underneath and I wasn't sure what it was when upside down. I have never minded any creepy crawlies, right from when I was little. My mother used to cringe a lot when I took them all indoors though.

Hi Thrupennybit, I've seen a few Ladybirds about but none of the foreign ones with the orange legs. perhaps our cold winters have killed them off.
