Mine is about 9 ft tall, but I cut it back by half every spring, so I've never let it reach it's full potential.I have a hardy banana tree behind it, that needs some sunlight. I think most chaste trees top out at 15 feet. The variegated plant in this pic is called Aucuba, I guess this would be our cold hardy version of your croton...lol. It's what I have to settle with anyway !

Why is it called "Chaste"? It looks quite wanton to me!!! But the whole picture is beautiful. Is the purpley one an acer?

Hahahaha.... Magnoliatree, that's so funny, good question too. I know I felt 'tempted' when I saw it at the nursery, and I felt a strong 'desire' to have it growing in my own yard, so I gave in and bought it ! We should rename it 'tease tree' instead...lol.
P.S. To answer your question, yes you are quite right, that is an acer palmatum 'Bloodgood' in the background. Thanks for the laughs....

Your chaste tree looks like my Buddliea. Is it the same with your local name, or a different thing altogether.

Thanks everyone !
Hi Chris, I thought it was a different cultivar of buddleia too the first time I had a glimse of it at the nursery, but it's not. It's not fragrant like a buddleia either. The botanical name for it is Vitex agnus-castus. It has several common names, chaste tree is the one most used around here where I live. It's good points are that it is very tough once established and very drought tolerant, and it's hardy to zone 6 .

Don't know this plant, it's interesting looking. How large a tree is this?
