Dark Orange daylilies

Dark Orange daylilies

These are shorter than Kwanso or my yellow daylilies but not as small as the dwarf daylily Stella de Oro

reminds me of "Stafford"

My mom had these all over our yard, when I was a kid...they bloomed in mid-July and she called them 12th of July Lilies... lovely, hardy and timely, as one series of plants finish..they herald the start of the next. In a plant swap this spring I received some Stella de Oro roots. Have planted them and coddled them through the dryness. Hope they establish because they are also hardy and lovely. In my town garden them bloomed from July until frost. I also have a plant that is supposed to be a dwarf lily...which has never blossomed yet...but it's so tiny I can't imagine what it would be like...this is it's third year and although it is growing it doesn't look like it will blossom this season. It's nice to have a few riddles to solve.

Thanks Gg, I was thinking maybe 'Sammy Russell'. The daylily "Stafford" seems to be darker and its petals looks plumper than mine.
Russell was a Texas grower who had a son named Sammy. I think it was 1951 when he registered Sammy.
But again, pure speculation on my part.

Lori, post the picture of the dwarf (mini) daylily when you will have it blooming. I also have Stella de Oro. In the pot. It was pictured as deer resistant on the package (can I hear you laughing?). Sure, deer will not eat the leaves but finds flowers very tasty. I do like it but have to keep an eye on it.

The deer are smarter than they seem, Klahanie! The Japanese eat the flower buds! (Or so I've read) ...never having tried it myself, though.
