They make my eyes stream preparing them Sandra ,almost until the next harvest Sheila depending on how many are eaten over winter once the're pickled !

Several jars I expect Linda everybody loves pickled onions , I don't know why but my granddaughter always calls them Christmas onions ...

We only had pickled onions at Christmas....a very long time ago Amy. They were considered a treat.

I had a good harvest of normal onions and just dug up loads of garlic which I have drying off in the greenhouse like your shallots. I will try shallots next year Amy, feeling spurred on by your success.:-))

Thanks I've only pickled 2 Kilner jars so far ,they make my eyes stream you need a break between jars to get your eye sight back again !

Poppy you can pickle layers of ordinary onions in slices in vinegar good for a tasty sandwich or burger ,I often slice cucumber with it as well ..

Hi Amy. Try using an electric fan while you are preparing the shallots to blow the fumes the other way.
