What do you going to the left in a pot and the right spiny thing?

The plants on the left are: Cordia boissieri and Epiphyllum oxypedalum, which is burning in the heat. The plant on the right is a rare Pachypodium species from Madagascar which has done horribly here since I got it. It goes dormant very early. I don't really like it! I've had it for years, though. It does flower in spring or summer, though. The large-leaf forms of Pachypodium are so much lusher and flower longer.

Is it P.rutenbergianum? Thats a BIG pachy in ground.
I wish I could grow tropical flowering tree's. Just no room. The list of what have learnjed that can grow here is getting longer by the day..its just that flowering trees not bonsai are too much for me.

No, it's a very narrow-leafed Pachypodium. It's not very common at all. It doesn't grow too well here. I brought it at a specialty nursery here so many years ago. It's already lost all its leaves and it's been in the 90's here.

I really like the large-leafed Pachypodium forms. They grow so much larger and lusher with leaves all year and many flowers.

My pachy? Still in bud. I think when things get sunny here by Tuesday,I might actually see a flower. Do they flower much this time of year in soucal?

There's many flowering right now. Two of my neighbors have them in their front yard flowering. My plant is putting out leaves again (after it lost all its leaves). It's a crazy plant! I don't like it. I may just sell it off.

I have one in ground in the front yard. The rains and still warm temps have got it looking perky like it never is all summer. Nothing can make plants look watered like rain.
If we got a storm like the last maybe once every month and half in summer...what we could grow!. Just have to water potted plants in between.

It's a rare species of Pachypodium from Madagascar. The Succulent nursery where I purchased it got the seed from Africa. It has never grown very well here. The trunk got burned in a really bad heatwave about three years ago. It was the same heatwave which killed my Plumeria obtusa 'Singapore'. :>((
