Was this the birthday present? I hope its very happy in your bog garden.

Yes Steragram, one of three, which I chose.
The leaves do die in winter, and the plants kept just damp in winter, so I won't put into the pond area till next Spring.
Ps. They are not grown in garden soil, and stood in rain water.

Definitely hooked Gg. Probably not old enough to flower next year, but I am patient.

Look old enough to me to flower, judging how many pitchers they have this year ! I bet they do

That would be a bonus as I went for the younger ones in 9cm pots. The flowering size ones were double the size and price.

I have one but can't find my label ,its not a nice colour like yours Sue its more 'Brown' It doesn't look too healthy at the moment I've had it a long time It has had flowers in past years ..

Amy, I think I saw a pic on here of yours. The pitchers do go brown in Autumn, and the plants must have a period of cold to rest over winter, just kept moist. Depending on the variety not freezing though. This plant was grown in a cold greenhouse, at the nursery, and here it has been quite warm ... Until now, 2 oC outside and 7oC overnight in my conservatory.

Mine is still outside Sue I must put it in the greenhouse , I also noticed your remark about cutting it down in the spring something I haven't been doing I must remember that although I do usually cut off any old foliage ..

Amy only a cold green house, to keep off the frost. Three of mine are still in the pond but I have raised the pots up so they are not sitting in as much water.

Siris , in the winter of 2011/12 it was minus 7 for over 4 days, one night it went down to minus 10 !!! and that was in the greenhouse and I never lost any ... its too wet over winter is the main problem that will finish them off.

Just thought ... I coudnt get into the greenhouse to light the paraffin heater as the door was also frozen solid.

I don't have heat in my green house Sue ,it was costing more than new plants or seed ....

Our conservatory is not supposed to be a green house!!!! But OH and I are each trying to take it over for our hobbies. It has tubular electric heaters in there on a thermostat, very rarely goes below 7oC, which is too warm for Sarracenias overwinter, but I am letting them down gently.

Very, very, nice. A bog garden with these new Sarracenias- or at least being much more available is a sight to see.
A local Landscape Designer has a small bog of them to see on YouTube. I forget her name. Its stunning .
So is she..if you look for it.

Stan, I grow the existing Sarracenias in pots, seated a couple of cms in holes in the bottom of a floating polystyrene raft in a small pond of rain water. It is a idea under review and development.
