Variegated Poinsettia.

Variegated Poinsettia.

This is the one broken piece that rooted from December 2015. Broken by cats. And that was great because the whole large plant died in freak cold later that week!. By then just two very small stems were sitting in a cup of water on our kitchen window sill.
Here it is near a year later..with a little trunk and starting to color up. I'm sure this much more acclimated to outdoors then the original big plant that came straight out of a nice warm greenhouse to my December front porch. From lows in the 60's to lows in the mid 30's!
If this does well outside all winter? I'm going to plant it out.

The cats did you a favour. If they had not broken this bit off you would have lost the whole plant :)

Isnt it funny? To think the day I saw the broken stems,I cursed a bit about those cats-lol.
Now,I thank them.

Come to think of it..they also knocked off some Staghorn fern pups off my big old one in the backyard that nobody ever see's unless I post a photo. I mounted those pups on my front yard ash tree- and people walking by smile and point at them.

Something telling me something!

I've never known cats to break plants. Dogs and kids but never cats.

Well- outside chance it was a Possum, Howell. I will never know for sure. Those are clumsy. But yesterday I saw one cat just jump right on my Adiantum fern "Maori Princess" playing catch me with the other.

lol ...
I once had a cat that snapped the spines off my cacti with her teeth :D
but most of them have been more interested in prowling in the hedgerows.

Stan,

They always do better in the ground. They grow faster and grow so much larger.

Today, "Donut" the cat was feasting on a huge Gopher. It was the size of a large rat with teeth like a sabertooth.
One reason I have been planting out..these cats look for earth movement. I watch them watch for that-lol.
What a relief to see one gone.

And that's why Andy. I might plant that Poinsettia out sooner!
btw,off topic. I've been looking at rare plant seeds on the net. I might try that for some side money.
