Thanks all it is a pretty sight ,I've read that you can layer bottom branches ,I'm off out to see if any of mine have done it naturally ....

Amy...how long does it keep its berries? I saw some lovely ones in the GC, but they were already dropping their berries. Mine has no berries ths year, in spite of a good load of blossom. It is very small though. The colour of those berries...unique! Never seen another plant with fruit like that.

Its worth a try Sheila , Karen we've been trying to remember how long this has had berries on it ,at a guess we estimate something between 2/3 months its amazing there no sign of berries dropping off yet ... I've checked in my 'Shrub ' book it says and I quote , " The colourful clusters persist until Christmas " so here's hoping for a longer display :o)
Karen mine is at least 6 ft tall in my book there's also another one called C. japonica which only grows 3ft tall ...

Thats really good news Amy. Thank you. Definitely worth persevering with then. After I saw your pic. I went and Googled it to see if there were any pictures of it 'en masse' but I couldn't find anything. Its a wonderful shrub when mature. :)
