Whatever this is named...its a cultivar of Aphelandra squarrosa.

Still, lights up a dark spot outdoors.

Looks ghostly too Stan but beautiful as well. It's not always about flowers.

Yes .. with many plants the leaves are more attractive than the flowers !

Thanks!.I should take a cutting this spring. I don't see this for sale and it also is slow growing and I suspect they are not long lived shrubs.
To think it was a $1 bin buy of plants the local giant store was going to toss soon.
It always amazes me how a plant can be sold everywhere inexpensively...then you wont see it again. Sometimes ever.

This one isn't so easy to grow. I've had one once. It needs lots of warmth and humidity to do well.

When I looked this up I was surprised to see it's a variety of the Zebra plant we grow here as a houseplant. Does it have the same bright yellow flowers? For some reason the flowers remind me of pineapples, don't know why.

The same yellow flowers TS..but,1/3 the size of the regular Zebra Plant.
Andy- it has done better in the shady back yard then on my front porch- that's warmer.
