Possible Brian as its on a steep slope so the earth could off ran off it. The sauirrels gather here.

That tree definitely has a lot of surface roots. Most surface-rooting trees don't receive enough water deep below the soil. Some tree it's just normal, though. What kind of tree is it?

Thank you Andy I have nt got a clue what kind of tree its is I shall have to look again back on my photos to see if I captured the tree it self in my photos if so I shall put it on but I am sure I did nt take a photo of the tree it self at the time in 2014.

A strange one many trees have the odd root above ground but all those it look as though water may have washed the soil away in the distant past,Or a giant Bonsai.!
