What to plant inside?

Maybe an air plant?

That's a beauty. Try Googling Terrariums for some ideas.

Nice Idea...they are easy to keep apparently :) And not too large for the terranium.....or you could keep a house spider in it! (sorry, watching strictly halloween special!).

Quite like the idea of getting a couple of airplants, vaguely remember watching gardeners’ world a while back when the featured them?

Cottagekaren- I don’t mind spiders! Considering I live with an all male household you’d be surprised how often I am called upn to remove a spider. I never kill them, just put them outside when the next day they’re back again through the open top windows! I don’t like Halloween though.....

How about an African Violet?

Bathgate- I really don't want to use compost as it gets messy and the wood base would eventually succumb to the moisture. I could put in a plastic container base but would like to try something different. Fill the bottom with gravel and simply place some airplants inside and presto!

There you go! You answered your own question.

Dancing at Halloween? Please explain??

Sorry...its Strictly Come Dancing I was watching. Actually its the first year I haven't watched it much....after watching it avidly for about 12 years now I think I've had my fill, and I don't have a clue who most of the 'Celebrities' are this year....must be getting old!

I would consider this beauty as a changing piece of art. don't get it dirty or wet. I would use for dryied arrangements, etc. changing with seasons. I could also envision some small objects as you can change them so easily. this does not solve the living plant idea.

Cottagekaren - Oh I get it! Sorry I have never watched strictly, never got into it and like you don't have a clue who the celebrities are!

Amsterdam, I just looked at Pinterest and there are some great ideas for planting this up on there. Sedums, Cacti, Sempervivums etc. with stones and/or gravel. Have fun with your planting!

Thanks for that. I think I will try air plants with some interesting texture. Just curious can you plant succulents in gravel alone?

I really don't know, seems unlikely though!

Not really - they do need some food and water. But if you were to use a shallow plastic dish for them and cover the surface of the compost with gravel you could fill the gap between the dish and the glass with gravel too and you wouldn't see the dish at all. Succulents in a terrarium would need very little water but they'd shrivel without any at all. Too much water and you'd get condensation on the glass.

I like Wells's suggestion of dried arrangements..
