Yes, this tree is very different from Monkey Puzzle tree.

It's growing unbelievably well this winter. It's very tropical and usually looses about 40 to 60 percent of its leaves during winter here.

That's great its doing well over the winter shame it looses its leaves but at least it survives.

Many tropical trees are semi-deciduous or very briefly deciduous, this is just one. Here are more exmples: Tabebuia species, Erythrina species, Chrorisia species, Psidium guajava, Bauhinia species, Cassia leptophylla, Spathodea campanulata.

You have quite a few varieties then I don't think we have any here that I know of.

In most colder climates most trees go completely dormant or deciduous. Even trees that loose leaves here are never completely dormant. The roots are always growing.
