My Mysore banana was just planted about a month ago into this spot. It just put out a new leaf with the rains from about two weeks ago. YAY! Photo taken Jan. 21, 2018.

Thanks! It was moved from it's original spot because it wasn't growing well there, anymore.

Penny,
This is my favorite eatible ladyfinger banana. Hopefully, within a year it'll grow some bananas, if I'm able to give it enough water (bananas need and love tons a lot of water).
All my bananas haven't produced bananas in the last few years because of the extreme drought conditions here.

We should ideally be able to grow bananas with all the rain we get, but, we don't have the warmth!!

Yes, bananas are very tropical (most varieties), they do need heat and lots and lots of water.
We've only had one good rain storm this season. It's insane! I cannot believe how hot and dry it's been this winter so far. Tomorrow and Monday we may have temps up to about 90ºF (32ºC) here.

You are soo right, Andy, just one rainstorm this season so far IS insane!!! ??
We thought the weather was very mild during the few days we had of south-westerly winds last week but we never got past about 15C anywhere in the UK that I've heard of! Even that was double the "normal" temps for late January in the UK! We can normally expect around 8C as maximum so your temps of 32C are FRIGHTENING! It's a rare summer if we get that high here! ?

Yes, it's been extremely dry and I'm getting very concerned about the lack of rain. Last year we finally broke the 6 year extreme, historic drought in California...now it appears it's back to severe drought again! ?.
Yesterday some areas in San Diego County exceeded 32ºC , it was only 30ºC here where I live. Today may be much warmer, though.
The normal high here, this time of the year should only be 20ºC.

Yesterday was 69f. Nice...today? eh. Foggy. They say the bay area might have record warm by the weekend. I might hit the nurserys..see whats filtering in.

OMG!!! It was very hot today! I'm sure the temps were in the upper 80's and low 90's for most of San Diego County.

That Mysore is no eyesore!
71f today Andy. I ventured out to Lowe's and HD for more potting soils and perlite. I did add an Aphelandra. I missed my old one that just faded after 4-5 years. Grea big, bloomed big...then every year after that, the leaves got smaller.
Next time that happens either means its got a short lifespan or,it needs all old soils removed and refreshened. Try that.

Mysore is probably the best lady-finger banana. The fruit is so delicious!
Which Aphelandra did you buy? Most Aphelandra species are really tropical.
