Can I join the 'Snow Gang' please?

Can I join the 'Snow Gang' please?

This is the first substantial fall of snow that we have had in Devon. The sky looks full of it but thankfully, so far, no blizzard conditions.

Okish here first thing, but after lunch a different matter.

I am beginning to wish I had booked a month away somewhere warm!

No, Shirley . . . you could still be waiting at some airport!

Too right...best at home everyone! I'm sorry South-West people, but I fear the worst is on its way to you.

We still haven't had any snow (7.25 pm). The welsh forecast said it would be bad in the east of wales but that's all. I am hoping we are too far west for it. We may get a dusting ...
or a lot lol, it depends on the wind direction.

Hywel I was hoping it would miss us,unfortunately it didn't,as you know, and tomorrow isn't great snow all day and evening, .but then it is supposed to rain on Saturday which is a turn up for the books and rain then for a week!! such crazy weather, all or nothing.

I always say I like rain but if it rains on this frozen ground it will be dangerous.
I don't know if we will miss the snow completely but I am feeling guilty that we have none when everyone else is snowed under lol :)

I'm happy for anyone who isn't getting this. Its the wind Hywel...its bitter. All the snow here has come to us horizontally. I've no idea where it's all piled up. I have visions of getting to Dundee ....4 miles down the road and finding a 10 foot high snowdrift like a wall around the city! But I'm sure that's just a nightmare ;) Am starting to get very worried about a lot of the shrubs.

The wind is strong here too Karen. It's howling around the house like a gale. If we had snow I'm sure it would drift.
I hope everyone's plants will survive this but I have doubts about them all pulling through.

Hmmm...unlikely isn't it. Oh well......it happens.

Do not feel guilty Hywel. We are all grateful that someone is not having to cope with it. Wildrose I hope you do not get any more snow either.

It’s no fun for anyone . . . bitterly cold and sleeting here. Frustrating for the new garden too: our young landscapers drew lines of chalk two days ago (to the plan) but they’ve been covered by a thin layer of snow ever since :(

We had no more snow overnight but it is still icy cold. The police have told us all to stay at home as the roads are dangerous in most places.
What is it like in other parts of the country today?
Do take care and stay warm. I shan't be going far myself!

Lucky you Chris ! ( Wild Rose ). Its been awful here and couldn't get out the village for two days ! We even lost the heating and hot water yesterday due to the outside condensation pipe being totally frozen. It makes me wonder how we managed years ago when there was no central heating !

2 Mar, 2018

Oh Rose I saw on the news that thousands of owners of condensing boilers up and down the country have had the same problem. They had a plumber on to tell people how to thaw the pipe out. Apparently you could crack the pipe if you apply HOT water, use only warm water. Then you need to use something to insulate it from the cold. We managed long ago because we had coal fires that heated up the walls. Bedroom fires were only lit if the weather was very bad or if someone was ill. Stay safe.

Thanks Scotsgran ! I didn't know that! Because we couldn't get hold of the plumber, our landlord's father came and it was the first thing he did ! Plus he used a hammer to break it up ! Fortunately it worked !

It was good you were able to get someone to come out. It is not really something you can prepare for, like making sure you have plenty of food in the house.

We're just watching the snow thaw at the moment WR, following the heaviest snow fall we've had in years. It's also very foggy but at least the biting wind has dropped.
