These are South African that are native to an area near Cape Town. It may have been taken to Australia, it has certainly been taken to the US and southern Europe, and has become endangered back in SA. My bulbs came from Greece.

Probably so than Wylie.. The ones I would pass by daily I thought were like an iris...maybe fairy iris....but very much like these..

I should have one opening any day. I remember when the USS Midway stopped in Perth/Fremantle, there was some Dietes g. growing by an unused railroad track near the beach.

I was just going to say that maybe Janey saw Dietes in Australia! These are lovely, and very similar. I'm sure I'd also muddle them with Gladiolus murielae . . .
