I find these a nuisance in the garden but in the woodland they’re happy and I’m happy

I can remember back in London, where I was bought up, a very long time ago, they used to pick violets and sell them for Mothering Sunday.

The perfect place to see them Dawn.....if they get in the garden they are a pain to get rid of!

You're right Dawn...they are a weed in the garden even with that pretty flower...always popping up just where you don't want them!
Mine are more of a paler lilac colour, not so deep as yours..

This has answered a question before I got around to asking it lol. Got this all around my garden and wondered what it was. Thank you for the answer ?.

In the garden, they take a lot of eradicating and tough to get out, but in the woodland out of harms way they are nice.

Oh yes, I agree Dawn, in the right place they are beautiful...such a pretty flower....

If they get under a shrub or such like you can’t get at them to remove, annoying. Cold and drab and wet and misty here today Janey, ?

Tough and lovely! I found that they travel through my bed/borders in waves... getting ever closer to the forest edge. I need tough stuff in my cold climate and they are so pretty each spring. I like the foliage clumps as ground cover... (having lots of ground to cover) but I can see how they could be a problem where space is required for wider varieties of plants. I have the tiny sweet white ones, the tall forest loving yellow ones, as well as a variety called "freckles" shared by another GoY member. I totally love them!

Wow Lori, you have lots of varieties, on your scale, these plants are perfect.

I admit I have a weakness for "survivors"..

I agree, I don’t have the time for anything too fussy.

They grow in my small garden too, at the edge of the grass below the camellias. That is their bit of woodland. Your clump is amazing Dawn. I wonder why they are called dog violet in common usage?

Dorjac, in the right place they are pretty little things. No idea where the name derives.

Lovely to walk thro' the wood on a warm day when they give off a scent.
