Planted 2 a couple of years ago. One completely disappeared, the other has one small shoot. The slugs just rule in my back garden. They rampage over everything. They took several of my Hostas ..completely gone. And they tried to take my three new Bergenias. But I put pellets down. They’ll get nothing else! Grrrrrrr. Weird thing is, its the dryest part of my garden. But its also shady.

I feel guilty using pellets but I cannot sit back and see plants I love and ones that have cost alot of money just be devoured. It's taken this a few years to get going, best it's been. Snails are bad here too.

I totally agree. That's exactly how I feel as well. I just wish there was some other way, but they are terrible. I suppose because I am surrounded by agriculture, my little oasis must be a real feast for them!

Yes a real feast, where do they come from though lol, darn things

I think they must be slithering across the fields every day....like they are on their way to Mecca! Lol

Glad you posted Miss Bateman, forgot the name, it's what I used for my pollination.

And very attractive she is too Dawn....far more flowers than mine which has produced 2...lol! I planted her in the shade years ago to scramble through Pauls Scarlet rose.

Talking of snails....I've noticed there have been far less in my garden this year, yes I've used pellets too, but after killing the ivy on the walls, they've had nowhere to hide and overwinter...yay!

Hooray to less snails Janey!

Miss Bateman was one of my very first clems, wish I'd looked after her better then I might not have lost her.

The last 6 clematis that I bought are all in 45cm or deeper troughs & all have done well with no slug damage but something is eating the petals of proteus - I suspect earwigs but of course I never actually see them.
