Victoria bought 4 3" shubunkins at Easter and they have clearly had babies. I think there are about 20 surviving babies and at 8 weeks old they start to change colour.

I have two baby shubnkins, the two adult ones must have got together at last but one adult died soon after so didn't see its babies :o((. Other fish have also had babies, they were all black but through the summer months have started to change to gold colour, I'm hoping they do not spawn next year as that will mean rehoming a lot of them, I still have a big black fish that never did change colour, I call it Shark LOL.

as we get more fish surviving and getting to a decent size they will eat more eggs and new babies next year. We find that over time the pond reaches a decent balance of numbers. They also eat the alga from the sides of the pond and that is such a bonus. :o)
The proper goldfish take about 3yrs before they change colour.

the larger shubunkin could be one of the parents and is now 5-6" big.
