Fully open amarillis

Aleyna

By Aleyna

Fully open amarillis (Amaryllis Red King)

Today, October 10th, the first flowering of the amarilis is fully open with 5 flowers and the second, also with 5 flowers, is still missing one to open. I had to stake the second flowering with a stake because the weight of the flowers was tilting the stem.

Thank you Steragram, yes we are very happy with the way the amarillys came back. It is very tall and the flowers are really big.

That's a stunning display, Aleyna! You have done really well! I've added this photo to my favorites!

You have done even better than me as I very rarely get one stem (scape) with FIVE flowers! I've NEVER had a bulb that has given me 2 scapes with 5 flowers on each! 👍

Thanks for your tips.
Now that flowers are almost gone, I believe I'll take of the stems.
Now, I will wait for the formation of the seeds to keep them for sowing.

If you sow the seeds they will take 4 years till they flower! I've done it twice! Think about where you will keep them till they flower! If you have temperatures below freezing in the winter they will need protection from the frost as well!

Each spring you will have to pot them all up into a bigger pot!

This, my first proper blog on GoY, will give you an idea of what to expect if you do sow the seeds:

Now they are flowering!
