Thanks all ,, Lol Brian Penstemons fill a lot of garden even if you have nothing else planned ,you can fill all the gaps with them and they bloom all summer long with a great assortment of colours ,they will serve me well until I get other other shrubs /plants etc growing ...

So true....but not for me this year. Mine have been awful.

That's a shame Karen , I wan't sure if we would be able to grow them after our move but the sandy soil doesn't seem to bother them at all ,the ones in my garden are still blooming away ..

Wonderful ! … The two cuttings you sent me a while ago have been lovely this year Amy and I have taken more cuttings from them :)

Mine haven't done very well this year either Karen. And I've found it took several years before cuttings really got going.

Thats strange Stera our cuttings bush out and flower the same year ,the ones shown here will flower next year I've even found that by layering a stem by pegging it down into the soil it will grow a new plant ..

Lovely lot of new plants there Amy. Penstemons flower for a long period over the summer.

The one you gave me a few years ago,Amy,has made quite a few more plants from cuttings, and are still looking good even now..lots of flowers on as yet,and strong and healthy..I shall try layering,as I didn't know you could do that either..thank you ..xx.

Thanks all for you comments Thats good news Sandra I'm glad its doing well for you , Stera I noticed they were layering themselves when I was tidying up round the plants one year some stems had fallen to the ground and roots were growing from them , I help them along now by bending the stem in a little hollow cover it with soil and put a stone or something similar on top to hold it in place ,Good luck .

It's like old times Amy, you're really getting back into gardening, it will be a year soon since you moved won't it.
9 Dec, 2018
It will be a year in January Dawn we should have moved in here before Christmas last year but with all the hold-ups it didn't happen ,I can't believe the year has gone so quickly ,I'm hoping next year is more plain sailing than this one , we have just about sorted out jobs that needed doing although we can see a couple of panes of glass have broken down they will have to be changed at some time , I suppose there will always be home maintenance where ever you are ... x

Yes I remember the trauma of last Christmas, you've done well, I know it's been tough but a challenge well executed x
