That looks like a bit of a grey day Paul. Is there much wildlife around there?

This picture is from last Spring Linda and Spring & Summer in NY could be very humid. There are a few things running around. Skunks, Raccoons, Squirrels, various birds. Recently I discovered there is a thriving colony of 'Little Brown Bats' living in the caverns of Central Park.

We have a few Pipistrelle bats flying round up here in the summer. They eat a lot of the insects.

Wow, that's interesting. I find them mysterious & fascinating and under appreciated, I guess because they are night creatures often associated darkness and haunted houses. I think we can all appreciate the service they provide. I just read this:

Many bats, and almost all in the United States, thrive on an insect diet. A single bat can eat up to 1,200 mosquito-sized insects every hour, and each bat usually eats 6,000 to 8,000 insects each night.Their appetite for mosquitoes certainly makes a backyard more comfortable. Bats are opportunistic, and their lack of discretion benefits everyone. Some of their favorite prey include crop-destroying moths, cucumber beetles, flies and gnats. Natural insect control is their specialty.

When we lived down the road in our Lodge dated 1795, we left the window open as it was so hot one night, and a pipistrelle bat flew into the bedroom. I woke up with it flying just round my head. I wasn't scared and woke Gerry up to help get the poor thing back outside again. We tried to get the bedcover and walk across the room to encourage the bat out, but that didn't work. The bat kept settling on Gerry's dressing gown hung up on the door, so I told him to put on his dressing gown and stand in the middle of the room and he did. The bat settled on his shoulder and I backed Gerry to the window, eased my hand down near to where the bat was and the bat flew out the window.
