Hi Sterra and Karen, I couldn't believe my eyes when I came upon these. I can remember as a girl a very, very long time ago when I lived in London they sold little bunches of these for mother's day.

Reminds me of the song 'Who will buy this wonderful morning?' from Oliver. I can picture a little girl selling tiny bunches of violets!!
I love them.

Love these guys, Linda. Yesterday I made my way to the stream banks through crystalline snow that was almost over my wellie tops..and cleaned out a clump of siberian iris. Snuggled at the base was a clump of violets...just the roots, no leaves yet, as the snow has just barely cleared them...and it gave me such a lift. One of natures' masterpieces. It's been so cold that I'm just desperate for spring and renewal.

Lori I hope the snow goes soon for you. We have had quite a bit of sunshine here and not a lot of rain.

We have plenty of water at present, Linda. We've had snow showers and thunder storms...and when you think it can't rain/snow anymore it proves you wrong. If we had more sunshine we would have more warmth..it's still very cold. I'm glad you're having a decent spring...we sure aren't. :-(

We've had some hazy mornings ending with blue skies. The sunrises and sunsets have been wonderful. Gerry and I have been out for a walk nearly every day. We went to Alport Heights yesterday, one on the highest places around here and we saw and heard Skylarks. The gorse looked fantastic.

19 Apr, 2019

that sounds idyllic, Linda. I've never heard or seen a skylark. Perhaps it's my roots calling to me as I would love to experience an English spring. I'm going to ask a silly question: is gorse a type of plant or is that a general term for meadow foliage?

24 Apr, 2019

Gorse is a shrub that likes to grow in the wild and has spiky, dark green foliage and yellow flowers, but you can get hybrid varieties of different coloured ones for the garden.
