Sambucus and trellises

The Sambucus is trained along a wrought iron fence and the trellises are becoming covered with Climbing roses Clematises and other shrubs.

I like the use of climbing/trained plants to almost double the space in the garden. I would not have thought of training the Sambucus like that but it is very effective. Your roses are lovely.

The Sambucus was becoming too big so I had the idea of training it along the fence to stop it overpowering nearby plants. It has flowered much better this year than when it grew 'properly'

It is a great tip so thank you for sharing. The flowers are lovely and you will have berries in to the autumn. Definitely a wildlife friendly garden.

That's marvellous, Hywel! I love that trellis too. Is it your workmanship?

My Sambucus is not flowering yet and come to think of it hasn’t produced any flower heads yet! I did prune it quite late this year I seem to remember...
