You've reminded me of Open Garden teas! I received a thank you letter today from Parkinsons UK for the final donation from our Open Gardens. I must admit, I am glad we have decided to stop opening. I have enjoyed my garden so much more since the decision was made. It feels like 'my' garden again. :)

Karen funnily enough, this cake was very popular at the well know Ulting Wick NGS garden, where they raised £20.000 this Summer......I was testing it to see if we liked it enough to serve at our open garden next year!
I must admit we do enjoy the buzz we get from opening, and enjoy all the planning and preparation .......but it isn't for everyone, I agree.

Well done both of you for raising money to help others. Your cake looks delicious DD. I used to open my garden when we lived down the road. Friends and neighbours very kindly used to come and help with the afternoon. I used to open up the downstairs of the Lodge too. The kitchen was the tea and cakes department, the dining room and lounge, tombola and stalls. In the garden a plant stall. A lot of work but well worth it to help raise money to help others.

I take my hat off to all of those who open their gardens for charity. :)

Like the sound( and the looks) of this cake. Could just do with a slice. I seem to have got behind again with your photos, tho' I have been to Chepstow for the week end, Tredgar House, Tintern Abbey etc.
