Rare? I’ve seen many in the SF Bay Area.

Overall..still rare to see a large one. When you do,it stands out.

I have one that’s 7 ft tall. It popped up in one my plants less than two years ago probably from a seed from a bird.

That's how they grow in the wild. Some start out as air plants...somehow get roots down to the ground.
I remember last year my S.arboricola bloomed and had seeds. I think it skipped this year and it was even a warmer summer.
I know I saw a photo Andy of three S.arboricola,all green,that has reached some huge size in socal. Maybe 30' and were in full bloom. Awesome. I wish I could find that photo again.
My variegated I never pruned this year. This whole covid thing really slowed me down. Wasn't feeling so inspired I guess.
