Pear Cobbler

Pear Cobbler

with Anjou Pears. This is what you do during lockdown and when the sky is lowering. Great with a scoop of ice cream or just as is.

Oh, I wish I had someone to do the cooking in my life - I've always hated the job, although I usually produce reasonably edible meals but I definitely don't get any more enthusiastic as the years go by! This is a back-handed way of saying your cobbler looks delicious. Can I join in with Sheila's request??

Thank you everyone for your generous comments. Anget - this goes together quickly with only a few simple ingredients - pears, butter, flour, sugar, milk, corn starch, salt, cinnamon. The oven does all the work. :)

Now that looks delicious Paul.

That looks very tasty Paul. I hate cooked apples of any kind, but pears? well that's a whole different ball game, and with ice cream? Oh, yes please!

Thank you Linda. It's great in the morning with a cup of tea.
Hi Julia, Happy New Year! I agree, pears are the bomb!

Paul: you'd be proud of me. Prompted by reading this, I (almost willingly) made a plum crumble this morning. Unheard of! Hope it's edible...
Happy New Year. Hope the icicles are melting. If not, stay warm inside.

MMM I love plums Anget. That's what I love about this. It's easy, delicious and you can get creative. I'm thinking peaches and cranberries next time if I can find good peaches or nectarines. I'm proud of you. Hope the kitties are doing well.

Paul that looks delicious. Ange join my club - I only cook because I have to. But I do like crumbles, even more than cobbler!! (using oats instead of flour)

I just checked out the recipe Paul. It is quite unlike a British cobbler so it was very interesting. I like the idea of adding the cinnamon and nutmeg - ideal spices for pears but I wouldn't have thought of it. I would add a lot less sugar as my OH isn't supposed to have it and we have got used to having things less sweet. Guess it would be good with apples too.

You can tweak it to your taste and the sky is the limit. I think peaches and cherries would be good. Not sure if this makes a difference but you can use maple syrup, honey or agave nectar in lieu of sugar.

I usually use concentrated apple juice for fruit dishes and dates for baking (add a little water and microwave and when they go mushy let them cool and mash them. You can then cream them with butter as you would use sugar. Although there is lots of fructose it is not refined so its isn't absorbed by the body as quickly) It seems to be refined sugars that so most damage if you are susceptible.

That's true. I try to stay away from refined foods. If you do decide to make this, be sure to use self-rising flour and not all-purpose flour. That's crucial - self-rising flour only.

Looks delicious Paul
