Julia, this is the Spiraea japonica "Shirobana" planted in 2002 which I hard prune every Autumn.

That is a lovely shrub and seems to 'enjoy' the prune.

Julia, I am unable to plant anything in its final position until the builders have been to create a garden path. I have spent a couple of hours today digging up plants that are near to the edge of the old existing path and just 'heeling them in another border for now. It's all quite frustrating but, hopefully, worth the hassle eventually!
Thanks Sbg . . . thanks also for replying to my question on the Nerine bulbs . . . some of them are huge!
