Can you see the Bumblebee working in the snow?

A busy bee indeed...no weather shall stop this fellow!

Bumblebees emerge from their nests earlier than the honey bees as they have the furry coat and can withstand lower temperatures. They are the queens and they collect the pollen to take back to their nests to store ready to lay their eggs to start the new colony going. The workers are female but there are male bees as well. They usually nest in the ground in banks and under hedges. The nest consists in the end of around 100 - 150 bees. The honey they produce doesn't last like the honeybees as it's weaker in volume and doesn't keep very long.

Typical though of the female of the species. Bee males/drones don't really do much except mate and feed!

When I kept my hives the males had a rounded end and didn't sting. They were there for exactly what you said SBG. The females were the workers that did all the jobs in the hive like feeding the larva, tending to the queen, protecting the hive and went out foraging at different stages in their lives.

Loved keeping the bees. Loved the honey too and made wax candles from the excess wax that I cut off with a hot knife before extracting the honey. I boiled it up in a saucepan of hot water to get rid of the impurities, let it set and then made the candles.
