I think we call them crickets… great capture! At first I thought ‘praying mantis’ but glad it’s not …

Thanks all. Love those eyes. Eileen is correct (as usual). A visit from a Katydid is said to be a sign of good luck and a tornado just missed my house last night. Only my cosmos were flattened. That's all!

Goodness me Paul, glad you are o.k.

Crikey! I’m pleased you didn’t suffer any damage..apart from some flattened flowers! Very frightening to see so close I’m sure!!!

Thank you so much. We do get some horrid storms. Usually they come and go before I know it.

These get really huge here in San Diego. They’re my worst enemy because they eat all my plants, even my plumeria tree leaves which no other bug eats.

I heard they can do quite a bit of damage. Seldom do I ever get to see one and it's usually just one on the milkweed. They can have the milkweed.

You can have the ones in my garden, they’re everywhere in summer. 😂. I hate to kill anything, but I have a special way I kill these bugs (which I won’t say on GoY). I get very large locust which are destructive, also.

LOL this is the locust's cousin.

I wanted to say: Thank God the tornado missed your house! That would be extremely scary. We very rarely experience tornados in California.

Thank you so much. We do get violent storms periodically. To be honest, they can be terrifying. They often strike without warning. I've had funnel clouds whirling above my house, but they don't always touch down. In 1975, a storm took down an airliner as it approached JFK. It was Eastern Airlines flight 66. It crashed just a mile from my house. You can read about it online.
