They are entertaining to watch, thanks Kate. :-) they keep up a constant comment on dewy evenings and mornings. maybe a small water container (a large clay pot with a cork in the drainage hole, maybe.) Some stones and some shelter .. "if you build it~ they will come"... lol..

Yes, it's his/her ear, Janey! I was pretty sure that it's common to all anurans, but did some looking and there's a specie of frog that does not have tympanic ear structures.. they are "Gardiner" frogs. and it's a name applied to them not a misspelling of gardener. they do not hear as much as sense... they sense sound thro vibrations in the air or water on their skin..eyes, noses, etc. Amphibian DNA is quite interesting.
I think that's why my hostas don't get devoured by snails, Lindak. lots of little leopard frogs in the grass. special care is needed when cutting grass to maintain the population. lol...

Thanks Lori. Our common frog has a dark patch behind its eye, which encompasses its ear. It's not so noticeable as this one..
