Bird of Paradise seedling in kitchen. Now 3 years old. The only one of three seeds to germinate & grow.

Thank you, Lindak! It does look better now but a few months ago I wasn't sure if perhaps I'd damaged it when I repotted it. But in a fairly short time it put out two new leaves. So it seems to be happy & I can look forward to seeing it flower in a year or two!

I have to laugh at your expectation to see a flower in a year or two. When I grew mine from seed, and they do have very low germination rates, it took 11 years for the first flower. This is the start of the season for them to flower around here.

It looks great beside your blind Balc, really exotic.

Thanks for your "encouragement", Wylie! 😂 So I shouldn't "wait around" to see if it flowers in a couple of years then! 😂
Though of course I would like to see it flower I'm no too worried about it. I consider it a victory to have been able to keep it alive the last 3 years. It's quite a good looking plant as well.

I am trying to help you manage your expectations. Every thing says 5-7 years for the first flower, but I just kept saying to myself, "Maybe next year", until it finally happened after 11 years. Now the thing is huge and it will take a bulldozer to move it, but it gets more and more flowers every year.

Thanks Wylie. I'm not worried too much if it doesn't flower for a few more years. I consider it a foliage plant till then!😂
