Gladiolus hybrid

Gladiolus hybrid (Gladiolus)

You know my style of gardening could be classified as Hybridization, and here is another first time bloomer in that effort: Gladiolus huttonii x Gladiolus undulatus. It is 7cm across. The plant is 55cm tall.

Thanks! It took only 2 years after starting the seed to get a flower. The seeds ripen late in the season, so I had to wait until the following fall to start it.

That is a very spectacular glad Wylie. Now to set about propagating it, if you have lots of years to spare!

I really like this and want to increase the bulb, but it means that as soon as the flowering is done, I have to cover the pot with a potato bag to keep a pesky bird from eating the bulb. I have lost several small bulbs because a black bird found the pots with them, and digs them out to eat and leaves the husks behind. The pots are on shelves 5 feet off the ground, so it has to be a bird.

Guard it well, Wylie, its worth it. Blackbirds are alway rooting out the soil in my pots.
