Pretty rose in SunValley.

Pretty rose in SunValley.

Unfortunately, it is only skeleton of a rose attacked by deer all the time. As soon it shoots a new branch they are there to munch it off. I swear that they check it every day.
I planted it in early days when I had no idea.

It’s maddening for you Klahanie, and such a pretty rose too.

Thanks Sheila for understanding my frustration.
This would be one of my favorite.
I have few roses close to the house and they are protected (sort of) by motion activated sprinkle.

It looks to be a beautiful colour so it's even more frustrating that the deer keep chewing it back! Can't you move it somewhere they will leave it alone? Couldn't you give it some form of protection, like a wire cage. for example?

But if you have had it several years I suppose you would have done something to try & protect it by now.

No wire cages Balcony. I already have some around few fruit trees and hope to get rid of them as they grow to the point that deer would not reach .I see them as an eye sore. If it is a decision between wire cage and rose , the rose will have to go. I can spray but it is a labor intensive process and very stinky one .....lasting only until the next rain. I do it sometimes on my phlox which is my main flower bed close to the house and deer likes them too. It depends on what priorities one has. I would have to think about something decorative. Any ideas?

Haven't you done an internet search for deer proof plants?

I did Balcony. Not always right though and I have plants that our deer on Vancouver Island does not favour.... that is exactly how I cope with them. Unfortunately, it does not help my pretty rose in Sunvalley and other plants I enthusiastically planted early in the game (like grapes). Many internet sites list plants like roses "deer resistant" , because of the thorns I suspect. Many other plants listed our deer loves too (crocosmia or columbine for example). They are not reading these lists which are spread happily around by the "social media"

I moan but I am in peace with them Balcony. They are lovely animals.
Thank you for your thought.

It has that vintage old fashioned look, very pretty too! Shame the deer find them attractive too!
