I think I must be desperate for some warmth and sun! I vowed no more dahlias, but here we are! I have not tried cannas before, so any advice welcomed. I need colour in my life!

Hot, hot and hot! I think we all said no more dahlias after last summer! It's a new year though, so, why not! Love your choices, Ange.

They were cheaper than a SAD therapy light :-)
Thanks for your comments. I feel the need for a grass skirt coming on...

Well, Klahanie, they are a bit of an experiment for me. Sadly, they won't be visited by hummers but the insects might enjoy them. The GC had just put out fresh bulbs so I have better hopes for their appearance as they will have to go in pots here. At any rate, if they do grow for me I shall enjoy the zing of colour! I think I'm turning into my Mum - as she got older she enjoyed stronger and stronger colours as do I.

I've got a canna in a pot and it does well. I cut off the dying flowers and it keeps sending up more. It likes a feed now and again. When it dies back in the early winter I put it
in the cool greenhouse, and keep it on the dry side. I've just cut off all the dead leaves ready for it to go again and when it does I'll give it a feed again. I wish you lots of luck with your new plants.

Thanks for the info., Linda, very helpful. They are new to me. Kept in cool bedroom at the moment. It says to plant in March on the packets. I will try your regime. Fingers x'd.

I do it by trial and error Ange, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't with anything we grow. It just depends on the soil, and the summer's we have.

I have had cannas in a previous garden Ange but only lasted a couple of years.
I think they need to be protected or even lifted in the winter.
