Calliandra haematocephala and alba - Red and White Powder Puff

These powder puff trees were flowering at the San Diego Zoo. Most species of Calliandra bloom during the winter.

It’s a very common shrub here (but, not the white one). The other common one is Calliandra surinamensis (Surinam Powder Puff) which has pink and white stamens. There’s several species of Calliandra that grow here.
