Exciting to be starting out on a new garden. I think focussing on the wildlife will give you lots of pleasure, Muddy.

Muddy, does this mean you may have to change your choice of trees? Lots of muck and leaf mould should help. I garden on Sussex clay, so the complete opposite of your soil. Good luck.

My garden at Willow Cottage was sandy, but everything grew so well in it. There are lots of plants that like sandy soil too.

I have to agree with Rose! We had an area of garden in Carnoustie that was pure sand left from the builders. Everything I planted there thrived! Most plants benefit so much from sharp drainage. My problem is the opposite in the new build. Heavy sticky clay. But the remedy is the same..organic mulch!

We had sandy soil when we lived on the Isle of Wight, so we had an enormous compost heap mixed with horse manure from a local stable. It improved the soil and we grew most plants and veg on our plot. Good gardening Muddy.
