Plan for my new garden #2.

No lawn. I’m looking for a ‘Mediterranean vibe’ with a big brickwork patio in the centre. There will be lots of potted plants and trees so as I wander around I will be very close to all the plants. It’s only about 10x11metres, so it will be like a courtyard garden. And it faces East so only one half will be sunny. But I think we might enjoy having shade here in the summer! Feel free to let me have your thoughts!

Karen, in my sunny front gravel garden I have found that Rosemary, Lavender, Hydrangea and Osmanthus all thrive. As it is on clay, I have added compost and grit at each planting. Also, there are a few very healthy Olive trees growing in back gardens around us, both North and South facing.

Lavender is a good choice and the bees like it. I like your design and thoughts as to the sun and shade Parts of the new garden, then you can look round for suitable plants to grow there. If it's a hot summer it's good to have a seat in the shade.

Thanks everyone! Well that was my thinking too Linda. We will appreciate some shade here. Xx

Muddy…that’s the thing. A plan is great, especially if you need a landscaper as we will. But a garden is really created once you get into it!

Loving your plans, Karen. I do love to see Mediterranean garden styles. To be honest, the others have hit the nail on the head with their ideas! I've a lot of Rosemary on our dry bund hill, exposed to sun and elements. Does fabulously well!
My lavender, osmanthus and olive do really well too.
Look forward to seeing it all evolve for you!!!!

Hi Karen,
Exciting times - I do like a good plan! Although I do wonder how you’ll both cope with the Southern heat?
I made a plan for my new garden back in November, but have made so many tweaks it’s hardly recognisable now and I’ve barely made a physical start yet.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the photos as you progress.
