My little Lau Lau tree has larger leaves than it is tall. This little tree is 9 inches tall and the newest leaves are 11 inches long. The leaves will eventually grow to 2 1/2 ft long. This extremely rare tropical tree appears to grow very well outside here in San Diego, CA. Photo taken April 4, 2024.

It can grow to more than 30 ft (10 m). I think it’s kept much small in the few areas it grows outdoors in the US, though. It’s very rare in the US. On the tropical South Pacific islands it’s a pretty common tree, from what I’ve read.
