I haven't decided whether to train it on the fence, or just let it become a tree. A tree would be good because there is a garage behind it. But on the other hand, I'd probably get more fruit if it was trained.

Training it against a fence would be my preference ... :o)

Karen, do you watch Gardener's World? Frances Tophill was planting various fruits against a wall ... worth a look perhaps?

I half watched it Shirley. To be honest, I found it a little bit dull. Maybe it was just the mood I was in. I love Frances.

Ah, this is why we record it and watch it, often on a Saturday lunchtime, fast forwarding items that don't interest us, well myself really!

I can watch it again on Iplayer. X

Good plan.

That's a nice one. Is it a smaller variety? If so, I too would plant out. OH cut back our 'Brown Turkey' and I have a cutting in a pot doing really well after a couple of years. I hope I shall have space for it as it's one of my favourite climbers, but probably not in this garden!

It’s in the ground already Ange. It has its roots restricted with two garden slabs and two sides of fence. I’m not sure about its size tbh. I am thinking of training it on two sides of the fence and keeping it well pruned. I think that’s the way forward.
