Look how I've grown!

Look how I've grown!

One flower on 13th July , now there are many more and the Bees are loving them. The darker Sunflower lower down is a different plant!

I like the yellow ones.

Josie, it's hard to see on this photo but the edges of the outer petals have now faded to white. Very attractive.

Multi-headed Sunflowers look great + they last a lot longer than the single ones! This is a very good example of those that have many heads.

When I worked on the allotment a friend shared with me we had lots of Sunflowers & almost all of them had multiple heads as well. In fact the one that won me a bottle of wine for being the tallest on the allotment field was also multi-headed.

David, I remember well your blogs and photos from the allotment. The Bees are loving these Sunflowers ... :o)

Our local council gardeners have been sowing "wild flower" seeds in some very long narrow winding beds in the l-o-n-g park we have alongside the river here. (Riverside Park!) This year among the "wild flowers" they have sown 100s of sunflowers which are flowering now. Yet though I walked very close to them last Friday I hardly saw a bee! The previous Saturday I did the same when there were fewer flowers open but saw a few more bees & managed to get a few close up photos (Macros) of them feeding & pollinating - doing what bees do best!

When we grew them on the allotments 15 years ago they were full of the buzz of bees all the time.

Well done to the Council for sowing wild flower seeds. I'm sure doing this will help the pollinators.

I hope you are right, Shirley! After we have damaged the environment they have lived in for uncountable generations they need all the help they can get to increase their numbers again!

That's so true. I am delighted to see this Sunflower plant is still upright today, dreadful wind and rain yesterday and overnight.
