It certainly is Jane, against the white trunk of the birch too.
I could do with more perennials and maybe a couple of evergreen shrubs that tolerate summer drought.

Hi Janey, noticed I didn't reply to you, thanks for your comment, I need more perennials too, I've also had my eye on mahonia soft caress evergreen but not sure if it's drought tolerant and also have you looked at Choisya Aztec Pearl that has done well in my garden. I'm not sure why but some perennials don't seem to come back for me like achilleas and echinaceas which I love :-)

That's ok Jane..:) I have Mahonia charity which is in my shady border and it's been great for many years but now is too large with the amount of rain we had early on. I'll be pruning it this next week, wrong time I hasten to add, but it'll look better.
I don't think a Mahonia would do well on the south facing side, and all those prickly leaves to pick up! Soft caress sounds a far more gentle type?

I love Choisyas. I tried to grow one years ago, but it wasn't happy, but achilleas at mine are! Not echinaceas though. It's all trial and error isn't it, especially now with the changing climate. I do hope Mahonia Soft caress will be happy at yours..:))

Jane, such a lovely spot in your garden! Your acer looks striking, lovely leaf colour. The birch trunk is very attractive too.
