As many GoYers will know, we leave these for the birds as the grapes are too sharp and full of pips for us.

Yes, I agree. Those colours! Plus, more birds in the garden to enjoy!

Lucky birds!

Ange, we had a surprise just now (2.30pm) when a large Magpie landed on the glass topped table under the vine and tried hard, unsuccessfully, to fly up and grab some grapes. Never seen a bird that big so close to the patio doors!

Shirley, In our last place, I used to put mealworms out onto a planter we had outside our lounge window and the maggies were fearless about coming down for them, to the point that their beautiful tail feathers used to swish against the glass door. They ignored us sitting in the lounge! They seem fearless. We now have a family of 4 that visit regularly. The 2 young ones will squaw in the cherry tree at the bottom of the garden until I put out the 'spent' catfood for them.

Ange, I loved reading your comment about the Magpies. Yesterday our daughter was about to peg her washing out when she saw a bird of prey in her small back garden. Sadly for her to see, it was finishing off a Magpie ... :o(

I saw magpies doing the same to a nest of baby robins once. I try to tell myself we didn't make the laws, Shirley. It's a tough life for all of them out there.

Survival of the fittest and all that ... sad though it is.

I love Magpies. They are stunningly beautiful birds with their lovely teal tail feathers.
