I also grow Anthurium (inside)and it is doing very well, pushing new flowers and leaves out constantly.
Can you grow it outdoors in your area Bushbernie?

Yes they do grow outdoors here, but they need to be in filtered light. I have grown a couple of them out in my shadehouse garden, but they were both strangled by ferns. I now grow mine in pots.

Thank you for your answer Bushbernie.
I have the same problem with our ferns here on the Island.
We have two kinds which are attractive but very invasive. They even suffocated couple of my rhododendrons which I found dead when I was clearing the ferns out. Lots of seedlings everywhere.

Delovix2 (GOY member) grows several types of Anthuriums in his place in San Diego (US).

It is popular here as a "Christmas plant ",same as Poinsettia or Amaryllis. Not as much as indoor plant.

Klahanie, I've tried so many times to pull out the massive fern that takes over so many of the garden beds here, but it's a never-ending battle. They are a weed at my place!!

Anthuriums are a very popular indoor plant here because they're easy to look after. They don't need much water or fertiliser as long as they are in the right spot.

I have this in my conservatory which my dear late husband bought me many years ago.
It is so easy to look after.

I do like these, Bernie, but, I'm not so good with indoor plants unfortunately!

Rose, they are quite easy to care for here as well. Just need the right light conditions really!

Kate, over here plants that you would regard as indoor plants are not grown indoors at all. I actually have no plants inside my house at all, but lots of potted plants in areas like the verandah and in the courtyard under the eaves of the house.

It’s very healthy. I have one in my big plumeria tree. I had it indoors, but it wasn’t enough light to get it to bloom.

How many years do your Anthuriums live? My plants always decline after 5 or 6 years.

I've had some that have lasted around 10 years, but most seem to die off around the same time as yours - 5 to 6 years.

My very large Anthurium ‘Lazarz’ , which is a bird nest Anthurium is almost 23 years old. The bird nest anthuriums are very easy to grow and they thrive on neglect.

Wow, 23 years! That's amazing. I'm not familiar with the Lazarz. I'll have to google it and have a closer look.

Here’s an old pic. I’ll probably take some new pics soon.
