Alocasia cucullata - Chinese Taro

Alocasia cucullata - Chinese Taro (Alocasia cucullata - Chinese Taro)

My Alocasia is putting out a new leaf right now. This species of Alocasia carries some of the most leaves (if not the most leaves) of any Alocasia. Photo taken December 28, 2024.

This one is a common plant in many tropical gardens here. People do underestimate or misunderstand the size it grows too though and it's often found cramped into small spaces, which is a shame.

This Alocasia species typically stays pretty small, only 4 ft…but, the very common Alocasia macrorrhizos can grow into a monster plant to 15 ft (4.6 m).

Yes, I was thinking about the Giant Taro, sorry. I didn't pay enough attention to the title.

Many Alocasia species look very similar. It can be very difficult to tell them apart. I still can’t distinguish the differences between Alocasia macrorrhizos and Alocasia odora. They look like the same plant to me. 😂
