It’s old name is metallic elephants ears because it has a metallic sheen on the surface of the leaf. The back of the leaf is dark maroon-purple. This New Guinea native is a very hardy Alocasia. It’s other name is Hardy Alocasia, even though, I don’t think it’ll tolerate freezing temps. Photo taken December 28, 2024.

It is a beauty! It grows very well in my horrible soil, too.
I had a very large Alocasia wentii when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. It grew so fast and very well in the very fertile soil of the SF Bay Area.

I can see the metallic sheen on the leaf in front. How wonderful. I also love the dark colour on the back. It's a lovely thing.
