Gladiolus

Gladiolus

This is a Gladiolus I made using the species instead of those tall hybrids you are familiar with. It is 50cm tall with thin leaves and a sturdy stem, the flowers are 9cm across. The species will hold up to the wind, which this has done. We have had several storms through here lately, and it is still standing without support. I would describe it as coral pink with grey purple marks on the lower petals.

It's a lovely colour & shape, Wylie, & if it stands up to the winds, well what could be better?

The colours are beautiful. It’s far lovelier than the showy ones.

Fortunately, I have the perfect weather for germinating these types of seeds. I sow them, and then put the flats outside. About a month later, they start coming up. This year I did a couple of different types of Babiana and Sparaxis.
