Ficus umbellata - Umbrella Fig Tree

Umbrella fig tree is a very popular plant or tree here in the last 5 or 6 years. It’s still pretty darn expensive even though it’s widely sold. This tree was small a few years ago. I think it was planted 6 years ago when this area (Africa Rocks at San Diego Zoo) was finished. It’s a pretty big tropical tree native to West Africa. I would guess 50 or 60 ft would be its maximum height. Photo taken February 2, 2025.

Most Ficus species grow extremely fast in the ground. Many outgrow their speces very quickly.
